On June 22, 2025, Officers located 35-year old Edison Estremera-Cohen riding a bike on N. Clinton Ave. Officers had information that he had previously shot and killed David Vazquez at 24 Oscar St, earlier in the day. During the apprehension, Estremera-Cohen pulled out a 9mm handgun and fired one round in the direction of an Officer from inches away. A second Officer returned fire, striking Estremera-Cohen multiple times.
Estremera-Cohen has since been indicted by a Grand Jury for two counts of Murder in the 2nd Degree, Attempted Aggravated Murder of a Police Officer, Robbery in the 1st Degree, and four counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree.

As a matter of routine practice, the Professional Standards Section is continuing their internal review of the incident.
Any questions pertaining to the indicted charges or court proceedings must be directed to the District Attorney’s Office.
Two of the three Officers involved have since returned to full duty. The Officer involved in shooting the suspect is currently on an Administrative Assignment.
