Brighton Hosts Inaugural Celebration For AANHPI Heritage Month


Town of Brighton Hosts Inaugural Celebration for Asian American, Native Hawai’ian & Pacific Islander Heritage Month


Brighton, NY - The Town of Brighton announced its first-ever celebration in honor of Asian American, Native Hawai’ian & Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month. 




The event will take place on Thursday, May 16 at 6 p.m. at Town Hall, located at 2300 Elmwood Avenue.


Organizers state attendees can look forward to a captivating dance performance by the ABCD Dance Company showcasing a dance style from Southeast Asia. Additionally, there will be a moderated panel discussion featuring esteemed guests:


- Dr. Prabu David, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at RIT

- Dr. Christina Lee, Vice President of Brighton’s Board of Education and Global Affairs Coordinator at MCC

- The Honorable Vik Vilkhu, Brighton Town Justice


Aligned with the Town’s Inclusion, Diversity and Equity Action (IDEA) Plan, the Inclusion, Diversity and Equity Advisory (IDEA) Board focuses on six key areas: Communication, Education and Celebration; Engagement and Partnerships; Inclusion and Representation; Policies and Practices; Economics; Public Safety; and Infrastructure, Housing, and Transportation. "This celebration is a testament to its dedication to fostering inclusion, diversity, and equity within the community," organizers confirmed. 


Established in 2019, the IDEA Board consists of Brighton residents to promote inclusivity in the Town. Mark Kokanovich serves as the Chair of the Town’s IDEA Board.
