Atlantic Avenue MVA

On September 10, 2025, at 3:09 p.m., Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 2800 block of Atlantic Avenue, in the Town of Penfield, for a single motor vehicle accident. Deputies arrived to find the vehicle on fire and entangled in downed power lines, hindering rescue efforts.

The investigation determined the vehicle was originally heading eastbound on Atlantic Avenue when it suddenly veered off the south side of the road at a curve. The vehicle struck a support wire to a utility pole, sheared the pole, and then struck a boulder before catching on fire.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was unfortunately killed in the collision and has been identified as Sharon Shearer, 69, of Penfield.

Several witnesses came forward to help police with this investigation and the events leading up to the collision. Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the collision.
