Assault 1st Arrest

Rochester, NY - On April 26, around 7:45pm, Officers responded to an Urgent Care on Chili Avenue for the report of an assault victim. Officers located the victim, a 19-year old male suffering significant, disfiguring, lacerations to the face and stab wounds to the upper body. The victim was transported to Strong Hospital for treatment of serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
The preliminary investigation found that the victim was involved in an altercation in the 500 block of Dewey Avenue. Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Section developed 28-year old Hassan Ross as the suspect. Yesterday, the United States Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force located Ross on Fox Street and safely took him into custody. Ross has been transported to the Monroe County Jail, where he is being held without bail.
Hassan Ross, age 28, is charged with Assault in the 1st Degree.
It should be noted, that Ross has two additional open felony cases. He was arrested in March of 2024 for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. While that case was pending, Ross was arrested in October 2025 and charged with Assault in the 1st Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree for a shooting on Evergreen Street in which the victim suffered life-threatening injuries. Per court records, Ross pled guilty on March 17 and is currently pending sentencing.

Rochester, NY - On October 5, around 4:40am, Officers responded to Evergreen Street for the report of a person shot. Officers located the victim, a male in his 30s, suffering from assault type injuries and a gunshot wound to the upper body. He was transported to Strong Hospital in life-threatening condition. Thankfully, the medical staff at Strong were able to stabilize him and have since deemed his injuries as non-life threatening.
The preliminary investigation found that there was an after-hours house party that led to a fight in the street and shot(s) were fired. Detectives were ultimately able to identify 27-year old Hassann Ross as the suspected shooter. Yesterday, the Rochester Police Department’s Tactical Unit located Ross on Ravine Avenue and safely took him into custody.
Hassann Ross, age 27, is charged with Assault in the 1st Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree. The Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree charge is based upon Ross possessing a firearm after having a criminal conviction. In this case, Ross was convicted of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree and Robbery in the 1st Degree in 2017. He was released from Parole in September of 2025.
