Mayor Malik D. Evans was joined today by City leaders, State representatives, local stakeholders, and members of the design and construction teams for a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the completion of the Aqueduct District Street Improvements in Downtown Rochester.

The improvements have transformed the revitalized Aqueduct District into a pedestrian-friendly destination while preserving vehicle access. The $3.1 million project is a key component of the ROC The Riverway initiative and reflects the broader vision of the Aqueduct Reimagined and Riverfront Promenades plan.
“The Aqueduct District, once the bustling heart of Rochester’s Erie Canal history, is alive again with energy and purpose,” said Mayor Malik D. Evans. “With the newly renovated Constellation Brands headquarters anchoring this space, we’re reconnecting with our natural and historic roots to build a bright future. Thanks to the leadership and commitment of Governor Kathy Hochul, this transformation is a powerful example of what we can achieve when we work together with shared vision, strong partnerships, and a commitment to progress that includes everyone."
“The ROC The Riverway initiative is working to transform the area surrounding the beautiful Genesee River”, said Empire State Development President and CEO & Commissioner Hope Knight. “These enhancements, as part of the Aqueduct Reimagined, are just the latest and greatest example of ESD’s successful efforts to spur development and create recreational opportunities in downtown Rochester. Thanks to the vision and leadership of Governor Kathy Hochul, our strategic investments and our valued partnerships with local stakeholders, we are fueling economic momentum and opportunity for the entire Finger Lakes region.”
The improvements span Aqueduct Street, Bank Place, Basin Street, Graves Street, and Race Street, and include new sidewalks, lighting, signage, and other streetscape enhancements. Aqueduct Street now features stone pavers that honor the site’s rich history and provide a distinctive new experience for residents and visitors alike.
