Fairport – The Rochester Technology & Manufacturing Association’s (RTMA) Finger Lakes Youth Apprenticeship Program (FLYAP) today held its 7th annual “Signing Day” at Monroe One BOCES – Eastern Monroe Career Center (EMCC) in Fairport. Several students from the school’s advanced manufacturing and engineering program are earning on-the-job experience through paid co-ops at local advanced manufacturing companies.
“Team FLYAP is excited to again partner with the students, instructors and administration at EMCC to host another great ‘Signing Day’ ceremony,” said Keri Martin, RTMA’s Youth Apprenticeship Coordinator. “EMCC is a proud partner of the Finger Lakes Youth Apprenticeship Program from day one, and we look forward to connecting these students to paid co-ops at advanced manufacturing companies in our region.”
The Finger Lakes Youth Apprenticeship Program was created in 2018 by the RTMA in partnership with Monroe Community College (MCC). Monroe One BOCES is among the charter schools to participate in the program.
Since its inception, FLYAP has connected more than 825 students to nearly 150 businesses throughout the great Rochester and Finger Lakes region. FLYAP students have also earned credit for more than 750 college classes at no cost through the program’s first five years. FLYAP is supported by the RG&E Foundation, Workforce Development Institute and others.
FLYAP is also hosting “Signing Day” ceremonies at other career and technical education (CTE) schools throughout the region and will be setting up job shadows for non-CTE school students throughout the next several weeks. For more information, check out https://www.rtma.org/flyap.
