The City of Rochester has welcomed 51 more asylum seekers from New York City (NYC) on the evening of Aug. 28, 2023.

Earlier this month, 77 seeking asylum were received.

This group of 51 is composed of 12 families: one from Haiti, one from Jamaica, seven from Venezuela and three from Ecuador.

All together, there are 23 adults and 28 children whose primary languages are English and Spanish.

Information about the asylees was supplied to Monroe County officials by DocGo, which is the company contracted by NYC for placement of the families.

The asylum seekers are “settled in at the downtown Holiday Inn,” according to Monroe County spokespersons.
