Willie W. Lightfoot R-Center to Close June 13 for Renovations

Starting Saturday, June 13, the Willie W. Lightfoot R-Center, 271 Flint St, will be closed for significant upgrades that will improve the visitor experience and help the facility continue to serve as a vital resource to the community. The R-Center building is slated to reopen in early 2027.

This phase of The Honorable Willie Walker Lightfoot R-Center for Equity and Justice Site Improvement Project includes:

  • Façade and entrance enhancements that will elevate its profile in the neighborhood, drawing in and welcoming new and existing visitors;

  • Expansive new windows that will allow for more light and visibility through interior and exterior walls, creating a more comfortable environment; and

  • A renovated computer lab that will enhance technology and internet access for students and residents.

“Our surroundings can impact how we engage with others, and in a place that’s all about fun, positive relationships with neighbors, friends, family and staff, it’s especially important,” said Mayor Malik D. Evans. “These upgrades will ensure that the R-Center building reflects the warm welcome that we want to give to all who enter.”

The R-Center will remain open during a second phase of renovations to come in Summer 2027.

While the Lightfoot R-Center is closed, residents are encouraged to explore recreation and events at the City’s nine other R-Centers. Learn more at www.CityofRochester.gov/R-Centers.
