Rochester, NY - On September 3, 2025, Officers responded to Strong Hospital for the report of two gunshot victims that had arrived via private vehicle. A 1-year old male, and a female in her 30s, were found to be suffering from significant gunshot wounds to the lower body. The preliminary investigation led Officers to a house on Westmoreland Street as the incident location.
Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Section executed a search warrant at the location, which found evidence that a shotgun had been fired from underneath a bed. Additionally, an unregistered Smith & Wesson handgun was recovered from the house.
The investigation has found that two small children were in the bedroom with a family member when it appears one of the children’s actions led to the accidental/unintentional discharge of the shotgun from under the bed, striking both victims. As a result of the investigation, yesterday afternoon, 36-year old Temu Medford was located by the United States Marshals Task Force and safely taken into custody. A short time later, 36-year old Heru Medford turned himself in the to the Public Safety Building. Both were transported to the Monroe County Jail.
Heru Medford, age 36, is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. It is alleged that he possessed the unregistered 9mm handgun and that he was responsible for the loaded shotgun that was in his room, under his bed, unsecured, in which children had access.
Temu Medford, age 36, is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, and Tampering with Physical Evidence. It is alleged that he possessed the unregistered 9mm handgun and that he tampered with and concealed significant evidence during the investigation.
