Turning Rochester into the Emerald City when Wicked Returns

Rochester, NY) – In anticipation of the return of Wicked, the Rochester Broadway Theatre League (RBTL) is aiming to turn Rochester into the Emerald City in celebration of the two-week engagement. RBTL has reached out to the City of Rochester, the Rochester Downtown Development Corporation and Visit Rochester to encourage all city buildings with color-changing lighting to display green during the run.

“We want to make Rochester look as vibrant as the Emerald City in the spirit of Wicked, as people from the Greater Rochester Region and beyond come downtown to see performances of one of the most successful shows in Broadway history,” said RBTL CEO Arnie Rothschild. “By changing the building lights to green, not only do we want to celebrate this musical, but we also want to add a bit of whimsy and entertainment for city residents and visitors to enjoy.”

Wicked, Rochester’s most popular musical, returns as part of RBTL’s 2025-2026 M&T Bank Broadway Season. Throughout the February 18 – March 1 engagement, RBTL expects to welcome more than 35,000 patrons to the West Herr Auditorium Theatre and Performing Arts Center, many of whom will visit city restaurants and other businesses before and after performances. Sharing this moment of community connectiveness by participating businesses “going green” will be a truly special experience and a moment of unity for our great city.

Limited tickets to Wicked are still available at Ticketmaster.com and the Auditorium Box Office.
