Rishard Harvey, 21, was a senior at Hampton University and a 2022 graduate of Brighton High School in Rochester. In a statement released Tuesday, church leaders expressed “profound sadness” over the loss and extended sympathies to the Harvey family, friends, and all who knew Rishard.

“We are all heartbroken by this tragic news,” Mt. Olivet’s Diaconate Board said. “The immediate focus is supporting the Harvey family and church members during this challenging time.”

According to Hampton University, Harvey was known for his love of music and active campus involvement. He was a member of the University Choirs, the Men’s Caucus, and the National Association of Black Accountants.

“Rishard was known for his passion for music and the joy he brought to those around him,” the university said in a statement from the President’s Office.

Church officials asked the public to respect the family’s privacy during this period of mourning. Mt. Olivet said it will continue offering support and resources to those impacted by the tragedy.

No additional details about the accident were immediately available.
