Local community organization celebrates family garden festival

In collaboration with Wide Water Gardens and Upper Monroe Neighborhood Association, the South East Area Coalition (SEAC) will host its sixth Ladybug Day on Saturday, June 6th from 11-3 P.M. in the community gardens at 345 Rosedale St. and the Culver Rd. Armory. This free family-friendly community event offers an afternoon of live music, food, kids’ activities, and artisan vendors.

“Celebrating Rochester area “flower power”, teaching our youth about environmentalism and the joys of art, gardening, and just growing our community, this mini festival is an organic celebration of local enterprise, environmental stewardship, physical and mental wellness, and creativity,” says SEAC’s Executive Director, Mike Evans.

Many of our Ladybug Day festivities are possible thanks to the generosity of premiere sponsors, the Culver Road Armory, Wegmans, and RG&E. Ladybug Day will feature live performances by Rose Elliott, Girls Rock!, Possum Tones String Band, and Mount Hope World Singers. Small area businesses will offer refreshments. Seneca Park Zoo Mobile, MegaBubbleman, Career Explorers and Arlene’s Face Painting will be visiting free of charge.

“We had so much fun making fairy houses, dancing, exploring the beautiful gardens, and running into friends and neighbors. I got a lot of holiday shopping done too!” shared Ann Marie Cassavechia, a repeat guest at the event.

Children and neighbors are invited to march at 11 A.M. from the corner of Monroe Ave and Rosedale Street (1006 Monroe Ave, Rochester, NY 14620) up Rosedale St., and into the Ladybug Day festivities at Wide Water Gardens. Lucky the Ladybug, Peas Louise, the RFD, Fairy Sage, and the mounted police will join kids, bikes, pets, and strollers for the release of 1,000 live ladybugs.
