ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Rochester Gas and Electric (RG&E) is partnering with Monroe County to accept and process Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) applications at an outreach event in Rochester tomorrow, January 30, and will continue through February. HEAP is a federally funded program that helps eligible households cover energy costs. The events are designed to help customers find resources available to help manage their monthly energy costs.
A Monroe County staff member will be on-site to support accepting and processing applications for HEAP benefits. An RG&E customer advocate will be available to answer questions and help customers understand their bills and the tools to better manage energy use. Advocates can help determine if customers qualify for the Energy Assistance program (EAP) or the Enhanced Affordability Program (EEAP), which offers an additional monthly bill credit for customers. Representatives can help with other financial assistance, including budget billing and payment plans.
“This has been an extremely cold winter, and we know that can have an impact on customers’ monthly energy bills,” said RG&E President Trish Nilsen. “We want to make sure we are reaching customers who may be facing financial hardship and let them know assistance and resources are available to them.”
“As dangerously cold temperatures grip our region, Monroe County is proud to partner with RG&E to connect residents with the HEAP assistance they need to stay warm and safe this winter,” said County Executive Adam Bello. “By bringing these outreach events directly into our community, we’re making it easier for families and seniors to access critical support and avoid energy insecurity. This partnership reflects our shared commitment to looking out for our neighbors when they need it most,” said County Executive Adam Bello.
