Dr. Demario Strickland, who has been serving as the interim superintendent of the Rochester City School District (RCSD) since July 1, 2024, has accepted a position at the Mt. Vernon City School District.

Stickland is set to conclude his tenure at RSSD at the end of June 2025. His appointment was announced by the Mount Vernon Board of Education and is effective July 1, 2025
Stickland will be succeeded by Dr. Eric Jay Rosser, the current superintendent of Poughkeepsie City School District, who was appointed by the RCSD Board of Education in March 2025. Dr. Rosser is scheduled to assume his new role in Rochester on July 1, 2025.
Strickland's leadership has been marked by a focus on teaching and learning, as well as efforts to address significant budget challenges within the district. His extensive experience includes roles as Deputy Superintendent of Teaching and Learning and Chief of Schools in RCSD, as well as positions in the Buffalo City School District and the New York City Department of Education.
In Mount Vernon, Strickland will oversee significant initiatives, including a district-wide reorganization plan aimed at addressing declining enrollment and financial challenges. The plan involves closing three schools and restructuring grade configurations across the district.
