Rochester, NY - City Council President Miguel A. Meléndez, Jr. will join local elected officials, Foodlink and the Rochester Red Wings on Saturday, Nov. 8 for a community food collection at Innovative Field.
“I am getting questions every day from community members wondering how they can help during the ongoing lapse of SNAP funding due to the federal government shutdown,” President Meléndez said. “This food collection is a great way to help the most vulnerable residents of our community in a time of crisis. Please join me, my family and my colleagues in government at Innovative Field on Saturday — and show our neighbors that Rochester has their back as we head into the holiday season.”
Non-perishable items are needed in order to help close the nutrition gap caused by an underfunding of SNAP in November. Items such as canned vegetables, canned chicken or tuna, cereal, rice, pasta, peanut butter and shelf-stable milk are acceptable donations.
The food collection will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8 at the Innovative Field parking lot, One Morrie Silver Way, Rochester, NY 14608. This event will accept donations which will be distributed to those in need through Rochester’s emergency food network.
