Norton Street Gun Arrest

Around 3am, yesterday, Officers responded to the 700 block of Norton Street for the 911 calls reporting an large, unruly, house party. While approaching the scene, they encountered an illegally parked 2013 Cadillac in front of the location. As Officers addressed the occupants, they observed a handgun in between the back passenger’s legs. Officers were able to safely take him into custody and recover a 9mm Glock handgun which was loaded with 27 rounds and was modified to fire in a fully automatically.
It took Officers from across the City around two hours to disperse a crowd of several hundred people at the large party, which included multiple bottles thrown at Officers from the unruly crowd. Two people were taken into custody and issued appearance tickets for Disorderly Conduct and the owner of the property issued citation(s) for violating the City of Rochester Municipal Code.
The armed individual, 35-year old Romand Avery, of Niagara Falls NY, was transported to the Monroe County Jail and is being held without bail.
Romand Avery, age 35, is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd and 3rd Degree. Avery is prohibited from possessing a firearm in New York State due to his previous criminal convictions, which includes a 2019 conviction for Assault in the 2nd Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree.
