Rochester, N.Y. — The Black Community Focus Fund (BCFF) is proud to present a special Juneteenth and Black Music Month celebration concert featuring legendary jazz bassist Ron Carter and his Foursight Quartet on Friday, June 19, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. at The Hochstein School. This powerful community event will bring one of the most influential musicians in jazz history to Rochester for an unforgettable evening of music, culture, and inspiration.

A Grammy Award-winning artist who has performed on more than 2,200 recordings, Mr. Carter is widely recognized as one of the most prolific and respected bassists of all time. His appearance in Rochester offers a rare opportunity for audiences and young musicians alike to experience a living legend.

In honor of the centennial of Miles Davis, Mr. Carter will present a special musical tribute to the iconic trumpeter and bandleader, with whom he performed for many years. The program will feature a dynamic mix of jazz standards and contemporary works, celebrating the enduring legacy of Black American music.

The concert holds deep historical significance for The Hochstein School, a site connected to Rochester’s rich cultural and civil rights history. The venue once hosted the memorial service of Frederick Douglass and served as a key location along the Underground Railroad.

Following the performance, Mr. Carter will participate in a special Q&A session with students from ROCmusic, providing young musicians with a unique opportunity to engage directly with a master artist.

“This concert represents more than a performance; it’s an opportunity to inspire, educate, and connect,” said Reverend Myra Brown, Executive Director of BCFF. “Bringing Ron Carter to Rochester to celebrate Juneteenth creates a meaningful moment to celebrate Black excellence in music and inspire the next generation of artists.”

The concert is part of Rochester’s broader Juneteenth celebrations, following the 10th annual Roc Juneteenth 5K Run/Walk, and serves as a fundraiser for BCFF. Proceeds will support the development of the Minister Franklin D. Florence Civil Rights Heritage Park at Baden Park, a new space dedicated to honoring local civil rights history.
