Latino Health Coalition Hosts "Unidos Por La Salud"

Rochester, NY, July 16—The Latino Health Coalition is proud to host Unidos Por La Salud: Wellness and Health Engagement on Every Local Street (United for Health/WHEELS) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, at International Plaza, 828 N. Clinton Ave.

The free, family-friendly community event is designed to connect residents with health services and critical resources that support overall well-being, recognizing that health extends beyond doctor's visits and medical care.

"When people think about health, they often think only about physical health. But access to safe housing, food, employment opportunities, legal services and financial resources all have a tremendous impact on a person's health and quality of life. This event brings those resources together in one accessible location for the community," said Julio Jordan, chair of the Latino Health Coalition.

With a goal to bring neighbors together while making vital services more accessible to communities that may face barriers accessing them, coalition partners sought to create an initiative that would have measurable community impact and strengthen connections between residents and service providers.

"We wanted to create something that truly meets people where they are," Jordan continued.

Attendees will have access to free health checks and information about:

  • Health care services and health insurance

  • Employment and job training opportunities

  • Housing assistance programs

  • Legal services

  • Financial literacy and budgeting resources

  • Other community resource vendors and information booths

Additional activities include:

  • Free food, provided in partnership with Foodlink and International Plaza partners

  • Live music from Poder 97.1 FM

  • Children's games and activities, including balloon art

  • Voter registration opportunities

"The Latino Health Coalition has been serving the Rochester community for more than 30 years," said Jeffrey Freeman, Health Coalitions manager at the Combined Entity of Common Ground Health-Finger Lakes Performing Provider System and Rochester RHIO (Common Ground-FLPPS-RRHIO). "This event reflects our commitment to advancing health equity by addressing both health care needs and the social factors that influence health outcomes."

The event is free and open to the public. Everyone is welcome. For more information, visit commongroundhealth.org/wheels.
