Lake Avenue Shooting Arrest

Rochester, NY - On January 17, around 7:30pm, Officers responded to the 4500 block of Lake Avenue for the report of a person shot. Officers located a 48-year old male suffering from at least one gunshot wound to the upper body. He was transported to Strong Hospital for serious injuries and, following surgery, upgraded to stable condition.

The preliminary investigation found that there was an ongoing dispute between the victim and a third party. The suspect attempted to intervene on behalf of the third part by producing a handgun and shooting the victim. Detectives executed multiple search warrants and located a Lorcen .380 caliber handgun in a nearby apartment.

Additionally, Detectives identified 59-year old Edworth Morris as the suspected shooter. Yesterday, Lake Section Officers located Morris during a traffic stop in the 4500 block of Lake Avenue and safely took him into custody. He was transported to the Monroe County Jail and arraigned this morning in Rochester City Court.

Edworth Morris, age 50, is charged with Assault in the 2nd Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd and 3rd Degree.
