On September 20, around 2am, Officers responded to Karnes Street for a ShotSpotter activation. This was the second time in the night that ShotSpotter had been activated for that area. While on scene, Officers were alerted to an unknown male in the backyard of a house. As Officers looked into the backyard, they saw a male attempting to secrete himself behind a tarp covered vehicle. Despite multiple commands to come out, the male not only refused to come out, but Officers could hear what sounded like the male working the slide of a handgun.
After several minutes, the male surrendered and was safely taken into custody. Behind the vehicle, where the suspect was hiding, Officers located a loaded Hi Point 9mm handgun, a live 9mm round on the ground, and evidence of shots fired. The subsequent investigation found that he was responsible for firing gunshot(s) for both ShotSpotter activations that were several hours apart.
Dan Marcucci-Borelli, age 33, is charged with two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree and two counts of Prohibited Use of a Weapon.
