Jury Finds Kyshonn Green Guilty of Murder in the 2nd Degree

Rochester, NY- On Thursday, May 7, 2026, a Monroe County jury convicted 33-year-old Kyshonn Green of Murder in the 2nd Degree for the murder of J’Mere Ridley-Smith.

On July 26, 2025, at approximately 4:15PM, Gates Police Officers responded to the Wegmans distribution center on Brooks Avenue for reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, 25-year-old J’Mere Ridley-Smith was found deceased inside the distribution center with multiple gunshot wounds. He was working at the time of the homicide.

After a thorough investigation, which included video evidence and eyewitness reports, Gates Police Detectives determined that Kyshonn Green, a different Wegmans employee, shot and killed J’Mere Ridley-Smith as the victim was working.

Following the homicides, Kyshonn Green fled New York State. He was apprehended in Knoxville, Tennessee by the U.S. Marshals Task Force and charged with the murder of J’Mere Ridley-Smith.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Kevin Sunderland, Chief of the Local Courts Bureau, and Senior Assistant District Attorney James Nguyen, of the Special Victims Unit.

“J’Mere Ridley-Smith was simply doing what we all strive to do, working hard, contributing to his community, and living his life, when he was senselessly ambushed by a coworker,” said Assistant District Attorney Kevin Sunderland. “Every person has the right to feel safe in their workplace, and Kyshonn Green shattered that sense of security through a deliberate and brutal act of violence. His actions not only took J’Mere’s life, but also inflicted lasting trauma on everyone who witnessed and was impacted by this tragedy. I am also deeply grateful to J’Mere’s mother for her strength and presence throughout this trial. While no verdict can undo this devastating loss, we hope today brings a measure of accountability and some small comfort to J’Mere’s family as they continue to grieve.”

“Today’s verdict delivers justice for J’Mere Ridley-Smith, whose life was taken in an unimaginable act of violence at his workplace,” said Monroe County District Attorney Brian Green. “I commend Assistant District Attorneys Kevin Sunderland and James Nguyen for their dedication to this prosecution. I also want to thank the Gates Police Department, Rochester Police Department, Erie Police Department, Knoxville Police Department, US Marshals, Monroe County Crime Lab, and Wegmans personnel for their tireless efforts and collaboration on this case to locate and return the defendant to Monroe County to face justice.”

Kyshonn Green will be sentenced on June 30, 2026, in front of Monroe County Court Judge Douglas Randall.
