Judge Meredith Vacca Receives Favorable Vote
Judge Meredith A. Vacca is one of the eight judicial nominees that have advanced to the full Senate by the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee. Supporters believe this is part of the Committee's ongoing efforts to bring balance to the federal judiciary. The nominations consist of one circuit court nominee and seven district court nominees who are being considered for the position of United States District Judge.
Judge Vacca hails from the Western District of New York and has received a favorable vote of 12-9 from the Committee. This is an important step in the process of confirming the nominees and ensuring that the federal court system is equipped with qualified and diverse judges who uphold the rule of law.
Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), emphasized the significance of these nominations in upholding the rule of law and representing the diverse experiences of the American people. He stated that since the Democrats regained control of the White House and the Senate majority in January 2021, they have been dedicated to advancing highly qualified nominations to lifetime judgeships across the federal judiciary.
Under Chair Durbin's leadership, the Senate has already confirmed 202 judges to lifetime appointments during the Biden administration. With the Committee's report of 222 Article III judges to the full Senate, there are now seventeen-lifetime judges, including three circuit court nominees and fourteen district court nominees, eligible for a vote on the Senate floor.
The nominations that have been reported by the Committee include Embry J. Kidd for United States Circuit Judge for the Eleventh Circuit, Adam B. Abelson for United States District Judge for the District of Maryland, Michelle Williams Court for United States District Judge for the Central District of California, Anne Hwang for United States District Judge for the Central District of California, Stacey D. Neumann for United States District Judge for the District of Maine, Joseph Francis Saporito Jr. for United States District Judge for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, Meredith A. Vacca for United States District Judge for the Western District of New York, and Cynthia Valenzuela Dixon for United States District Judge for the Central District of California. These nominations have received varying vote totals, but they all contribute to the Committee's goal of bringing balance and diversity to the federal court system.
