Joseph Berardi Convicted of Predatory Sexual Assault Against a Child and Endangering the Welfare of a Child

ree

Rochester, NY- On Friday, September 19, 2025, 37-year-old Joseph Berardi was convicted by a Monroe County jury of Predatory Sexual Assault Against a Child and Endangering the Welfare of a Child for the ongoing sexual abuse of a child less than the age of thirteen.

On June 8, 2023, a young child made a disclosure to a mandated reporter regarding ongoing sexual abuse from Joseph Berardi. The mandated reporter immediately reached out to CPS, who began an immediate investigation with the Greece Police Department. After a thorough, but swift investigation, Joseph Berardi was arrested for the sexual abuse against a child for conduct occuring between March 21, 2021 and March 20, 2023.

This case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Kaylee Rizzari, of the Special

Victims Unit.

“I cannot overstate the strength and resilience of this victim who experienced an unimaginable trauma at the hands of Joseph Berardi,” said Assistant District Attorney Kaylee Rizzari. “By coming forward to report her heinous abuse, she has helped to ensure that this monster will not have access to another child to victimize. This conviction is a powerful reminder that when survivors come forward, we can stop predators and protect our community. I hope that today’s conviction will assist this young survivor in her journey to recovery and have some sense of childhood.”

“Predatory Sexual Assault Against a Child is one of the most heinous and despicable crimes imaginable,” said Acting Monroe County District Attorney Perry Duckles. “It is difficult to comprehend such abuse, yet Joseph Berardi subjected a child to years of exploitation. The courage this young survivor showed by confronting him in court is nothing short of heroic. Given the severity of his crimes, a lengthy sentence in the New York State Department of Corrections is both necessary and just. Our community is safer today because of the bravery of this child and the swift response of CPS and law enforcement.”

Joseph Berardi is scheduled to be sentenced on October 20, 2025, in front of Acting Monroe County Court Judge Patterson.
