Important Update on REAL ID, Setting the Record Straight

(Rochester NY) – Monroe County Clerk Jamie Romeo and her team contain to combat against the surge in misinformation surrounding the REAL ID deadline on May 7th.
• On May 7th the REAL ID will be compliant, requiring individuals to possess one for domestic travel within the United States. Additionally, a REAL ID will be necessary for entry into all federal buildings.
• After May 7th, the ID remain compliant, but this doesn’t mean that the public cannot longer schedule to get one. The public can obtain a REAL ID AT ANYTIME AFTER THE 7th.
• If you do not have a trip coming up, we urge folks not to stress getting the REAL ID. All Ds are being issued within a two-week period allowing you to schedule an appointment at
your earliest convince.
• If you currently hold a PASSPORT OR ENHANCED licensed, you do not need to obtain a REAL ID. As these documents are already compliant.
