Rochester, N.Y., February 19, 2026—Creative works by student artists who are a part of the Flower City Arts Center’s Studio 678 Photo Club 2025/2026 will be presented in the George Eastman Museum’s community gallery, Gallery Obscura, from February 28 through June 21, 2026. These photographs and texts are inspired by the students’ vision of the world around them.
Guided by program mentors and volunteers, twenty participants learned to use 35mm film cameras and produce their own black-and-white prints in the darkroom. Through this hands-on journey, students practice photography in the studio and throughout the Rochester community, taking full ownership of their creative process. Student artists practiced photography at local landmarks, and in community spaces, where they connected with people who shape their city. Trips included Lollipop Farm, Village Gate for street photography, and RocDog for a photo session with therapy dogs. Students also collaborated with local poets to compose poems to accompany their photographs. Studio 678 is the only program of its kind in the Rochester area.
Through the camera and creative writing, Studio 678 Photo Club student artists have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of their community and themselves. All of the projects in the program are designed to enhance knowledge of core school subjects, foster conceptual thinking skills, build confidence, and empower youth to express their vision and voice.
