We are delighted to invite you to join us for a truly special series of performances as Garth Fagan Dance returns to Nazareth University for its 55th Anniversary Performance Celebration. This milestone engagement will take place May 7–10, 2026, in Rochester, New York.
This historic season marks more than five decades of groundbreaking artistry, cultural impact, and a deep commitment to excellence in dance. Known for its innovative fusion of modern dance, Afro-Caribbean traditions, ballet, and post-modern technique, Garth Fagan Dance continues to captivate audiences with work that is both technically brilliant and emotionally powerful.
The program will feature exciting new works by GFD leadership, including Artistic Director Norwood “PJ” Pennewell’s Priestess Hill (formerly Days and Nights in Rocinha), which premiered to a standing ovation during our collaboration with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra at the Eastman Theatre. Executive Director Natalie Rogers-Cropper will present a world premiere, Messages To The Storm. The program also includes a revival of Garth Fagan’s Prelude (Discipline is Freedom) (1981/983) and Never Top 40 (1985), the latter not seen since the 1990's. Together, these pieces reflect the company’s enduring legacy while pointing toward its vibrant future.
This season is especially meaningful as we also celebrate the 86th birthday of our visionary founder, Garth Fagan. A recipient of numerous honors, including the Tony Award, Olivier Award, and the National Medal of the Arts, Fagan’s pioneering choreography has influenced generations of dancers around the world. His company remains a beacon of artistic excellence, innovation, and cultural expression.
Join us for an unforgettable performance experience that honors the past, celebrates the present, and looks ahead to the future of this extraordinary company.
