Students from the Rochester City School District’s Virtual Academy of Rochester (VAR) will showcase their photography at an upcoming art exhibit in downtown Rochester, thanks to an ongoing partnership with the Rochester Institute of Technology.

These students are enrolled in a dual-credit digital photography course at RIT, where they earn college credit and gain hands-on experience in a college-level setting, an opportunity designed to expand access to higher education.

The exhibition will kick off with an opening reception on Thursday, May 21, at 5 p.m. at RIT’s City Art Space. Student artwork will also be on display on May 22 – 23 from 1 to 8 p.m., and May 24 from 1 to 5 p.m. Students will display the work they have developed throughout the year, exploring a range of styles and techniques.

Throughout the school year, students visited RIT’s campus for immersive workshops led by university faculty and students. These experiences offered them access to professional equipment and new creative approaches, preparing them for this public showcase of their talent.
