Crime Report: April 2024

April 30:


Carjacking on Lyell Avenue

Around 2:15pm, we responded to the 400 block of Lyell Avenue for the report of a stolen vehicle with people inside of it.  The victim reported that they left their vehicle running in the parking lot of a store and when they came back out, the vehicle had been stolen.  Inside of the vehicle was a disabled female in her 60’s and an 8yr old child.  About 30 minutes later, the disabled female and the child were dropped off safely at the Rochester Fire Department station at Dewey Ave/Ridgeway.  The vehicle, a Dodge Journey, and the suspect(s) are still outstanding.

April 29:


Crash on Dewey Avenue

Just before 1230am, Officers responded to the 500 block of Dewey Ave for the report of a hit and run motor vehicle accident.  Upon arrival, it was learned three vehicles were involved and two fled the scene.  The two fleeing vehicles were westbound on Locust St when the remaining vehicle was northbound on Dewey Ave.  The northbound vehicle was struck by one of the fleeing cars and was sent off the road and into a tree.  The remaining vehicle was driven by a 50 year old female and the passenger was a 37 year old female.  The passenger complained of pain to the upper body and was treated and released at the scene.  The two fleeing vehicles have not yet been located.  Police are asking anyone with information to please call 911.

 

 April 28:


Stabbing on Frost Ave

On today’s date, RPD responded to the 100 block of Frost Ave for a report of a person stabbed. Upon arrival, officers found a M/B city resident who had been stabbed at least once in the upper body. The victim was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect was arrested and there is no further threat to the community at this time.


April 27:


Vehicle Crashes Into Building on N. Clinton Avenue

At approximately 6:15pm, an RPD officer on routine patrol on N. Clinton Ave was negotiating a turn when a vehicle being driven recklessly almost collided with his patrol car in the 1100 block of N. Clinton Ave.  A decision was made to pull this vehicle over for vehicle and traffic violations.  As the officer was closing in on this vehicle before even attempting the traffic stop, the vehicle sped up and attempted to negotiate a turn onto Kohlman St.  However, the vehicle was going too fast for the slippery road conditions and was unable to negotiate the turn.  As a result, the vehicle drove into the side of a building in the 1200 block of N. Clinton Ave causing extensive damage.  There was no pursuit ever initiated.  The driver and passenger from the vehicle did flee on foot but were swiftly apprehended by the responding officers.  Arrested were two 18 year old female city residents.  One female did complain of pain to the upper body as a result of the accident.  She was treated at the scene by AMR.  The other was uninjured.  The vehicle was a Hyundai and was reported stolen.  The driver was charged with Grand Larceny and Criminal Mischief 4th along with numerous traffic tickets.  The passenger was charged with Unlawful use of a Motor Vehicle 3rd.  Both females were then released with appearance tickets. 

 

RFD did respond to inspect the building and determined it was no longer structurally sound.  The 1st and 2nd floors of the building had to be evacuated.

 


Shooting on Clifford Ave

Just after 9:15pm, Officers responded to the 600 block of Hudson Ave for the report of gunfire heard in the area.  Upon arrival, Officers located evidence of gunfire and broken glass in the roadway.  Moments later, further 911 calls came in for the two people who were shot that just arrived to a residence in the 1300 block of Clifford Ave.  Officers responded there and located the two victims.  Victim 1 was a 41 year old male city resident who was suffering from at least one gunshot wound to the upper body.  Victim 2 was a 26 year old female city resident who was suffering from at least one gunshot wound to the upper body.  Both victims were transported to Strong Hospital via AMR to receive treatment for their non-life threatening injuries.  The investigation revealed the victims were both shot in the 600 block of Hudson Ave and drove themselves to the 1300 block of Clifford Ave.  At this time, there is nobody in custody and police are asking anyone with information to please call 911.


April 24:


Carjacking on Hudson Ave

On today’s date at approximately 4:17pm, Rochester Police Officers observed a vehicle that was taken in a recent carjacking robbery operating on Hudson Avenue.  These Officers attempted to stop this vehicle and it refused to pull over and fled.  Rochester Police Officers pursued this vehicle which eventually was stopped on West Ridge Road near the 390 on ramp.  After a brief foot chase – 3 suspects were apprehended.  The suspects (1) a 23 year old male and (2) a 22 year old male (both City of Rochester residents)  – along with a male juvenile – (Town of Greece resident) were all taken into custody without incident.  West Ridge Road was closed down for a short period of time – but has since been re-opened.  This is an active investigation and additional details may possibly be released by out Department PIO.  Our thanks to all the assisting agencies with our investigation.


April 23:


Robbery Scottsville Road

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office is investigating a robbery of the Marathon gas station located at 3932 Scottsville Road. The robbery occurred at approximately 1:19AM, and fortunately nobody was injured during the incident. The investigation is ongoing, and additional details will become available at such time as the investigation permits.


April 22:


Gunpoint Robbery Near LaSalle Street

At approximately 7:45 pm, Rochester Police Officers investigated a delayed gunpoint robbery in the area of LaSalle St.  Upon arrival, the victim, (32 YOA female city resident),  Two suspects demanded victim’s car keys and fled the scene in victim’s vehicle.  A while later, officers located victim’s vehicle on the railroad tracks at Otis/Burrows St..  Vehicle was unoccupied and appeared to have damage from an unreported MVA.   Victim was not injured.  No suspects in custody at this time. 


April 18:


Assault on N. Clinton Ave

At approximately 1:50 pm Rochester Police Officers responded to the 1000 block of N Clinton Ave for the report of an assault.  Upon arrival officers located the victim, a male in his 30’s, with injuries to his head and neck area.  The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was assaulted by the suspect(s) and struck with a glass bottle.  The victim was transported to Strong Hospital, via AMR, where he is currently being treated for his non-life-threatening injuries.  This is an active investigation.  Anyone with information is asked to call 911.


Person With Gun on Tacoma

At approximately 5:00 pm Rochester Police Officers responded to Tacoma St for the report of someone pointing a gun at people out of a car window.  Approximately 15 minutes later an RPD Officer spotted the vehicle involved, a 2013 Hyundai.  The officer attempted a traffic stop, however, the driver failed to comply and a vehicle pursuit ensued.  The short vehicle pursuit resulted in the suspect vehicle striking an occupied vehicle at the corner of Lyell Ave and Child St.  The occupant of that vehicle, a 2000 Honda, was not injured.  The suspect vehicle continued one more block to the intersection of Lyell Ave and Whitney St before it became inoperable.  Three people fled the vehicle on foot.  Two of which were apprehended by responding officers, both males, ages (14) and (15).  The third suspect was not located. 


 Stabbing W Ridge RD

At approximately 6:30 pm Rochester Police Officers responded to the 1600 block of Dewey Ave for the report of a male stabbed.  Upon arrival officers located the victim, an 18-year-old male, with at least one stab wound to his upper body.  The victim was transported to Strong Hospital, via AMR, where he is currently being treated for his non-life-threatening injuries.  Our preliminary investigation indicates there was a fight involving several people in the 200 block of W Ridge Rd (RISE Community School).  This fight occurred outside and NOT inside the school. The fight continued into the back of the property which backs up to Dewey Ave.  The field behind the school (Dewey Ave side) is where the victim suffered his stab wound(s). 

 

A second victim, 19-year-old male, suffered an injury to his upper body but was NOT stabbed.  He was transported to Strong Hospital for treatment (non-life threatening). 

 

As I was typing this just before 10 pm….  A third victim arrived, via private vehicle, at Rochester General Hospital.  This victim, a 14 year old male, was stabbed at least once in the upper body and he suffered his injuries during the same incident.  His injuries are non-life threatening.

 

There are no suspects in custody.  Anyone with information is asked to call 911.

 

April 16:


Shooting on Anthony Street

At approximately 9:27 pm, Rochester Police officers responded to 128 Anthony St. for the report of a person shot.  Upon arrival, officers located a male city resident with a gunshot wound to his lower body.  Victim did not call 911 and was not cooperative with police.  Victim was transported to Strong hospital by AMR for treatment, (non- life-threatening injury).  At this time it is unknown if injury is self-inflicted or caused by an unknown person.


April 15:


Stabbing on Wellington Ave

Just before 10:45pm, Officers responded to a residence in the 100 block of Wellingotn Ave for the report of a person stabbed.  Upon arrival, Officers encountered a male and a female who were both intoxicated.  The investigation revealed the two were involved in domestic argument that turned physical.  During the course of the altercation, the male victim, 59 years of age somehow received a very small cut to his upper body which was non-life threatening.  The female suspect, 59 years of age was uninjured and taken into custody without incident.  It is still unclear how the male was cut as both parties were too intoxicated to recall what happened.  The female was charged with misdemeanor Assault 3rd.

 

April 14:


Person Shot on Byers Court

On today’s date at approximately 6:45 pm, Rochester Police Officers responded to the 100 block of Byers Court for the report of a person shot.  Upon arrival. Officers did locate the victim – a 57-year-old male – City of Rochester resident – who was suffering from at least 1 gunshot to his upper body.  The victim was transported to Strong Hospital by ambulance – where he was treated for his non-life-threatening injuries.  This investigation is ongoing and there are no suspects in custody at this time.  Anyone with information related to this incident – is asked to please call 911.  The area surrounding the incident location has recently been released. 


April 13:


Smoke Shop Robbery on Chili Avenue

On today’s date at approximately 12:4pm, Rochester Police Officers responded to the 500 block of Chili Avenue – The Smoke Shop Dispensary – for the report of a robbery.   Upon arrival, Officers located the store clerk – a 38-year-old male – City of Rochester resident- who reported that several suspects entered the store and stole cash and property.  This victim sustained minor injuries during the incident – that did not require any medical attention.  All suspects fled prior to Police arrival and this is an ongoing investigation.  There have been no arrests related to this incident and anyone with information is asked to please call 911.

 


April 12:


Crash on St. Paul

At approximately 3:11 am Rochester Police Officers responded to the 400 block of St Paul St for the report of a motor vehicle accident.  The preliminary investigation revealed a Nissan was traveling southbound on St Paul St when it struck a tractor trailer that was turning northbound on St Paul St from a private business.  The Nissan struck the trailer causing damage to both.  The driver, and sole occupant, of the Nissan fled the scene on foot and has yet be located.  The driver, and sole occupant, of the tractor trailer was not injured.  Anyone with information is asked to call 911.


April 11:


Fatal Pedestrian Struck

Around 7:15am, this morning, we responded to the Driving Park Bridge for the report of a male down.  Officers arrived on-scene and located an adult aged male that had been struck by an eastbound vehicle that then fled the scene.  Sadly, the male’s injuries were found to be fatal and he was not transported to the hospital.  The Rochester Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit is currently investigating the incident and anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to call 911.


Fight and Possible Robbery on N. Clinton

At approximately 1:15 pm, Rochester Police Officers responded to the 1100 block of North Clinton Avenue for the report of a fight and possible robbery.  Upon arrival, Officers located the victim – a 32 year old male – Farmington, NY resident – who was suffering from facial injuries.   This victim was transported to Strong Hospital – where he was treated for his non-life-threatening injuries.  Through investigation – it was learned that the victim was approached by 2 suspects and a fight ensued.  The suspects then took the victim’s bag which contained cash and fled.  There have been no arrests at this point.  Anyone with information is asked to please call 911.


Gun Arrest on N. Clinton Ave

Around 6:20pm Officers were conducting a proactive GIVE detail in the N. Clinton Avenue area when they were alerted to a male threatening people with a gun in the 700 block of N. Clinton Avenue. Officers stopped the male, at which time he pulled a loaded .38 caliber revolver from a satchel. Officers immediately gave orders for the male to drop the gun and he complied. The male was safely taken into custody and the firearm was recovered. He was transported to the Monroe County Jail. Kenneth Thompson, age 58 of Albion NY, is charged with Menacing a Police Officer, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree. He is prohibited from possessing a firearm in NYS due to six previous felony convictions.
