Rochester City Council Vice President LaShay D. Harris, in collaboration with Monroe County Legislature President Yversha Roman and the American Heart Association, is accepting nominations for Heartsaver Hero Awards to be presented at the May 19 City Council meeting.
“As paramedic, I know firsthand how important every moment is in an emergency,” Vice President Harris said. “With CPR, you can be the difference maker for a neighbor or a loved one. If you see someone collapse from a sudden cardiac arrest, call 9-1-1 immediately, and remember that in the event of an emergency, you can take action.”
The Heartsaver Hero award, given by the American Heart Association, is a recognition of the heroic act of CPR. These awards are presented to heroes that have stepped in to help save a life during an emergency.

“It is crucial that we band together as one community in Rochester and Monroe County to prioritize the health and safety of our neighbors,” President Roman said. “I am thrilled to support this work, and uplift the acts of everyday people in our community who have stepped up and saved lives with CPR.”
Nominations for the Heartsaver Hero award align with the City of Rochester’s ongoing HeartSafe City initiative. To learn more about CPR in the Rochester community, and what you can do in an emergency, visit
“We at the American Heart Association are excited to work with Vice President Harris on the Heartsaver Hero awards,” said American Heart Association Development Director Megan Vargulick. “These awards are a great way to get the word out about bystander CPR, and take the time to recognize the heroes in our local communities.”
