The New American Advisory Council advises the Mayor’s Office and Rochester City Council, providing advice, knowledge, and information so they can address issues important to new Americans, including immigrants and refugees.
The NAAC is comprised of 15 members, 10 of whom are from the city’s new Americans community and five from local service providers. The Council will meet monthly, have subcommittees, and work on projects identified by its membership.
Qualifications for membership in the NAAC include depth of knowledge and a personal understanding of the New American experience in Rochester, as well as the flexibility and time to contribute to NAAC projects. Rochester and Monroe County residents are eligible to apply.
The NAAC nominating committee will review nominations. Recommended nominees will be appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Rochester City Council.
NAAC aims to ensure that its diverse membership includes a wide range of ethnicities, experiences, and backgrounds that reflect Rochester and its neighborhoods.
