Action for A Better Community to Host Free Community Action Day at Parcel 5



Rochester, N.Y. — Action for a Better Community, Inc. (ABC) will bring together Rochester-area families, community organizations, and public officials for its 2026 Community Action Day Celebration on Friday, August 14, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Parcel 5, 285 East Main Street in downtown Rochester.


The free, family-friendly event will provide residents with an opportunity to connect with dozens of community organizations and service providers offering resources related to health care, employment, education, housing, financial services, public safety, youth development, and other essential needs.


“Community Action Day reflects the power of organizations, residents and local leaders working together to help families access opportunities and overcome barriers,” said Jerome Underwood, president and CEO of Action for a Better Community. “We invite the entire Rochester community to join us for an afternoon of resources, entertainment and connection.”


Attendees will have opportunities to connect with representatives from ABC programs and numerous community partners, including Rochester Regional Health, the University of Rochester, Wilmot Cancer Institute, Anthony L. Jordan Health Center, Monroe County departments, the City of Rochester, the Urban League of Rochester, The Housing Council at PathStone, Teen Empowerment and other local organizations.


Mobile services and special vehicles scheduled to appear include a mobile library, mammography vehicle, City of Rochester workforce vehicle, Monroe County mobile unit and Foodlink truck.


Community Action Day will also feature live music, youth and dance performances, family activities, face painting, raffles, and appearances by local sports mascots. Scheduled performers include Divine Pearls, Purple Diamond, Nu’Christ Jerusalem, Teen Empowerment, Jasen Monroe, Huda Danesha, the Grateful Line Dance Krew, and live band Smooth Groove.


The formal program begins at 5 p.m. with remarks from ABC Board Chair Brad Rye and President and CEO Jerome Underwood, followed by the National Community Action Month awards and proclamations from local government representatives.
