Judge Stephen T. Miller

The Hon. Stephen T. Miller was elected to the Rochester City Court in November, 2005. As a Rochester City Court Judge, Judge Miller is committed to ensuring that everyone that appears in his courtroom seeking justice is treated with fairness, dignity, and respect. Judge Miller presides over misdemeanor cases, trials, and hearings, oversees the preliminary stages of felony cases, resolves tenant/landlord cases, and civil lawsuits.

Judge Miller currently serves as an Acting Monroe County Court Judge, where he presides over felony arraignment and sentencing of cases involving murder, rape, robbery, and other crimes.

Before his election to the Rochester City Court, Judge Miller served the people of Monroe County as a Senior Assistant District Attorney in the Major Felony Bureau, where he was responsible for the prosecution of the most violent crimes that occurred in Monroe County.

Prior to serving in the District Attorney's Office, Judge Miller taught as a New York State certified teacher in the Rochester City School District at his alma mater Joseph E. Wilson Magnet School.

Judge Miller understands the importance of being visibly active and involved with the community that he serves. He serves on the Pastoral Staff and as a teacher for all ages at the Church of Love Faith Center. From 2004 until 2007 Judge Miller served as a tutor with the "Lawyers for Learning" Program at Adlai E. Stevenson School #29. In addition to his City Court responsibilities, Judge Miller participates with the Rochester Teen Court, which honored him for his service in 2006 with its Rochester Teen Court "Hero" award.

In addition to speaking to students at area colleges who have an interest in the field of law, Judge Miller is also a frequent speaker to students at schools within the Rochester City School District and suburban schools, encouraging them to achieve academic and life success for themselves, their families, and their community.

In 2006, Judge Miller was honored by Wilson Magnet High School as a Distinguished Wilson Alumnus for success in the Rochester community, and his continued support of the Rochester City School District. He was also recognized in 2006 by the Democrat and Chronicle as one of Rochester's "Emerging African American Leaders". In 2007, he was honored by the Austin Steward Foundation for his service and commitment to the Rochester community.

Judge Miller is a graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo Law School where he earned his Juris Doctorate. He also earned a Masters of Science in Education from Nazareth College, and achieved his Bachelor of Arts in history and psychology from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He is a member of the Rochester Black Bar Association, and over the years he has served on various boards, and committees in our community.

Judge Miller was born and raised in the city of Rochester. He currently lives in Rochester with his wife Tracey, and their two daughters, Rachel, and Camille.
