Roderick Jones

Roderick Jones, a native of Brooklyn, New York, is married to Dr. Karen Jones and is the parent of three. Jones serves as president and chief executive officer of The Community Place of Greater
Rochester, Inc. (CPGR), one of the premier nonprofit providers of neighborhood-based human services in Rochester, New York. CPGR, which formed after the merger of three settlement houses-Eastside Community Center, Genesee Settlement House, and Lewis Street Center- in 2001, serves approximately 10,000 individuals and families throughout the greater Rochester area each year. Prior to his position as CEO he acted as executive vice president at the agency.

Jones has served in a wide variety of positions at various health and human service agencies, including the Perinatal Network of Monroe County, Genesee Settlement House, Baden Street Settlement House, and Action for a Better Community, following a short tenure at the General Electric Corporation in Corporate Computing. He is pursuing a doctorate in Education Leadership at St. John Fisher College (target graduation date of 2008) and holds a M.S. in Public Administration from Brockport College and a B.S. in Economic Crime Investigations from Syracuse University.

Among Jones' awards and acknowledgements are the 2006 National League of Negro and Professional Women's (Rochester Chapter) Man of the Year Award, Rochester Business Journal's 2002 Forty Under 40, one of the Democrat & Chronicle's 2006 and 2007 "Rochester's Emerging African-American Leaders," a nominee for the Rochester-Monroe County Youth Advocate of the Year, and the Sigma Pi Phi Outstanding Civic Services award. He has and continues to serve on a variety of boards, including the National Healthy Start Association, Perinatal Network of Monroe County, the YMCA, and National Alumni Councils. He is on the New York State Office for the Aging Advisory Council, and is co-chair of the Youth Services Quality Council of Rochester. He is also a co-founder of the Rochester Step-Off Educational Foundation, Inc. and currently serves as the organization's Board Vice-Chairman.

Jones has become an important advocate for including the voice of those that are poor, marginalized, and underrepresented. He contributes to the advancement of the work of the nonprofit sector in Rochester thanks to his leadership abilities and fresh outlook.
