Phyllisa
McEwen
Phyllisa McEwen is a proud life-long resident of Rochester, New York. Ms. McEwen
has been performing for the past 15 years. Her performances include vocal performances
like, Jammin at the Mag, at the Rochester Memorial Art Gallery, Geva Theatre,
and the Lilac Festival. In addition, she performed with the Rochester Mercury
Opera Factory in a production of Puccini's, Suor Angelica. She has performed with
the African-American gospel choir, AKOMA. Ms. McEwen's repertoire includes being
a playwright and producer for plays, including "When We Were One," and
"The Lottery Ticket." Phyllisa performed at the George Eastman House
for the Premier of RAALEN Entertainment. She is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of
The College at Brockport where she majored in Organizational Communication and
is a member of Alpha Chi, Lambda Eta Pi and Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Societies.
A former Miss Black USA of New York, she was cast as the lead in the Jewish Community
Center's production of Neil Simon's Proposals, and is a cast member in the upcoming
musical, Caroline, or Change. In addition, she holds the first place title for
the 2006 Monroe County voice and theatrical competition. Phyllisa performed an
original prose for Bishop Desmond Tutu of South Africa at the Convention Center
of Rochester, New York. Ms. McEwen hosts a community television program, "What's
Really Goin' On," for Time Warner Cables' Rochester Community Television
Station, Channel 15. She has written and published a book of poetry and prose
entitled, Sounds of Spirit and she currently is writing a short film. Phyllisa
recently launched a new leadership and communication development partnership company
with Helen Cheves, II Steps Ahead. She is a professional at The College at Brockport's
Rochester Educational Opportunity Center. Phylllisa McEwen is most proud of her
role as mother of her two children, Maya and Maleek; her muse and inspiration.
