Liz Medhin

A Wisconsin native, Liz Medhin originally came to Rochester in 2003 after graduation from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she double majored in Journalism and Political Science. She worked at R News for two years before heading south to Louisville, KY where she worked as a TV reporter for WDRB, FOX 41 covering everything from breaking news and political elections to Kentucky Derby celebrity parties.

Always up for a challenge, Liz says the opportunity to work in both TV and radio simultaneously made the move back to Rochester for a second time too attrative to pass up.

In addition to being the co-host of the #1 morning radio show in the market, WDKX's Wake Up Club (FM 103.9), Liz is also a reporter/fill-in anchor for ABC 13 WHAM News.

In April 2006, Liz received the prestigious, regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Excellence in Spot News Reporting. Always aiming to be a visual storyteller, a number of her stories have also earned National Press Photographers Association awards.

In July 2005, "The Ethiopian American" Online Magazine honored Liz by making her the magazine's first cover story. She was profiled as one of the first Ethiopian American TV Journalists in the United States. (Liz's father is Ethiopian, mother is African American.)

In her spare time (when she is not painting, writing poetry or watching her Packers play football), Liz makes sure she stays active in the community, speaking to kids and stressing the importance of education and literary.

She is a member of both the National Association of Black Journalists and the National Association of African Journalists
